![]() ![]() So much has happened with them I wanted to look back at my service tickets to remember but they’ve changed systems so I can’t see them. They really are the worst that I have experienced. I am doing it only as a hobby though, so I didn't care that much, and the release was just before Christmas and the Omicron wave, so they were overworked there and probably had some sick stuff.) (Ah, recently they've fucked up my release, delaying it a month for no real reason, someone forgot to hit a button and I had to harass the support for them to fix it. There are some weird issues with music genres - you can't release anything on Apple that has soundtrack or piano/classic as genre for example, but that might just be an Apple thing - and the selection of genres they offer is weird (not an issue if you release only electronic music), not sure how it looks in other services. I use landr - it has a yearly fee, you can stop paying and the music stays but then they take a 15% cut (which seems fine), the free tier has insane fees per album/single though, so you have to pay the yearly fee if you want to release something through them. If it’s still early days and you just need to get something out and build a name, start with what’s affordable for you and you can always move your music to a better option later. ![]() Obviously these things depend a lot on where you are in your career - if you know you’ll be making it back, spending more upfront for better service makes sense. I think I’m probably forgetting some but yeah, take from that what you will. Customer service is great and they also white-label their software so if you can find a distributor that uses their software you’d be golden. The percentages they take can be egregiousįUGA - not really for beginners but they are one of the most flexible platforms, fully featured and one of the few that can distribute Dolby Atmos and video. Customer service is responsive though and it’s low cost upfront There are a couple of other services like that on their website). OneRPM - false advertising on their website (eg whole reason I went to them was for vevo and Apple Music videos, turns out they don’t even do vevo anymore but still advertise it. Web platform could you use some work though So they get an A+ from me on customer service. As in it hit all the stores on time without a hitch. These guys pulled me out of trouble when Ditto fucked up (yet another) of my releases and had my album out for distribution within 48 hours. Gyrostream - somewhat expensive if you want to keep your royalties but man the customer service is stellar. ![]() However they have a number of antiquated restrictions on releases, metadata and artwork and show no signs of changing Cheaper upfront but expensive over timeĪmuse - actually quite good service and support on the pro tier, especially when managing multiple artists. Nice extras available and just launched video service too. Seriously, these people have shaved years off my lifespan.ĭistrokid - okay when it works, but support is the pits. That being said, here are my experiences based on releasing over 20 projects for a couple of different artists:ĭitto - do not touch with a ten foot pole. ![]() So I’ve actually tried quite a few aggregators and have decided that after enough shitty experiences I’m actually going to start my own. ![]()
